Additional Information

What are the benefits of SKINPEN®?
  • Increases deposition of elastin and collagen in the skin, thereby reducing fine lines, improving skin texture and quality
  • Improves appearances of skin scarring from acne and scarring from other causes
  • Allows delivery of topical treatments including platelet rich plasma (PRP)
How does SKINPEN® work?

A controlled method of using very fine needles to penetrate the dermal layer of the skin which has been numbed, creating multiple channels of microtrauma.

This depth is adjusted according to the area of the face and the thickness of the skin being treated. This stimulates collagen and elastin production by cells within these layers of skin which, in turn, helps to increase the quality of the skin.

What complementary treatments are available?

Micro-needling with SkinPen® can be used in isolation or in combination with other treatments. Combining micro-needling with topical treatments such as Vampire Facial or Profhilo® to boost dermal hydration and glow provides excellent results. Botox® a couple of weeks apart from micro-needling  addresses wrinkles and pore reduction. Non-invasive tightening radiofrequency treatments such as Forma further enhance the effects of SkinPen®.

What can I expect?

Prior to arrival at Montrose

A week before treatment stop all use of irritant topical products (Acids, Retinol, Vitamin C or scrubs)

If you are taking blood thinners, or NSAIDs such as Asprin or Ibuprofen you should discuss with your physician whether it is possible to discontinue their use whilst you are treated with the SkinPen®.

If you are prone to outbreaks of cold sores, you should discuss this with your practitioner as you might benefit from a course of antiviral medication before and after your micro-needling.

On arrival at Montrose

On arrival at Montrose, our team will assist in the removal of any makeup. One of our aestheticians will undertake an initial consultation to understand any of your concerns and to review your medical history, after which the treatment area will be photographed. Numbing cream is applied and following that micro-the skin is cleaned with an antiseptic solution and a single use head is applied to the SkinPen®.

A lubricant is used to allow the SkinPen® to slide over the areas to be treated and the SkinPen® is adjusted to alter the depth of needle penetration according to the thickness of the skin being treated. After this, the lubricant is cleansed off. If any topical treatment is being used, this is now applied and massaged in. If no topical treatment is applied, then a calming gel is applied.

The skin will be pink/red for the first few hours after treatment and a minimal amount scabbing may be present for the first day or two.

After the initial visit, the treatment is repeated after four-six weeks and results should be visible within two weeks of that time.
